A day trip

We went to the woods on Sunday for a day trip, the weather forecast
was dodgy, turns out we would have been OK, but better safe than
sorry, Roo and I both still snivvling with cold.
Some assorted pics of the woods, was a lovely day, we collected some
bricks for the base of our pizza oven and rigged up a big oak plank as
another bench, fixed up our tarpauling and patrolled our boundaries.
Had a lovely chat with our neighbours.
Very good fun.
Children muddy and tired.

Mooooore woodland pics

These pics were taken before we completed earlier in the year.

Sadly, not our little shack - the old Scout Hut in the neighbouring woodland! Nice though.

These pictures were sent with Picasa, from Google.

More pics of the wood!

Some split oak from a fallen tree. This is going to be made into planks and then into a table for the eating of dinner off.

This is the woods as we arrived on Saturday morning. They look like they're on fire, don't they? Steaming like a rainforest! Stunning.

Woods and woods and woods WOW

We have had our first camp and were really lucky to have some of our good and excellent friends and their children to share the experience with us. Had a truly amazing time. The woods are everything we expected and more - we managed to get a really thorough explore of the land and trees. We have a mature oak woodland with a hazel coppice, plus lots of holly and more sycamore than I remembered on the first visit (but we have a use for it). From our Ben Law course, we know that we mustn't touch the wood for the first year so that we can really orientate ourselves on the site - we have made a sturdy firepit and some seating only, and next weekend we're going to make a treebog and a swing and a bread oven so that we can meet our basic needs when we're there. The plan will be to be there are much as we can and experience the wood in all conditions, next year we can start restocking, coppicing and felling some of the standards. There is a HUGE amount of information to take on, and lots of variables. It is like starting out on a brand new profession and knowing NOTHING! We have been really well signposted to resources and have a bookshelf of useful guides!
