Well. That's that. We've moved off the boat. It has been an amazing few years, beneficial in any number of ways. I'm stronger and more resilient because of it. Lugging a ton of laundry three miles down the towpath in a pushchair in the middle of winter with two small children in tow is character building, especially if you've had to do it for weeks on end. Scavenging for firewood in the depths of winter, chopping wood and lighting good fires, cooking in the open air, identifying herbage and trees, being close to nature and watching the seasons change, generating our own power, being on the move, being uber thrifty, meeting people I wouldn't otherwise have met. Yep, it has definitely been hard work at times, though we took it all quite cheerfully as a challenge, but finally it was not having a garden (however small) just outside the door that meant the children could easily escape the confines of the boat that swung the need to move into a house. Its a little terraced house but one with open fires and (oh joy) a back-boiler on a Parkray stove. We're still burning wood for hot water and our electric is still renewables but not our own this time, courtesty of Good Energy.
So far - we've unpacked and settled in. Wait for the bills to arrive.......!!
